19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his maiden title for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former mentor Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden championship since the Rome competition and first on a hard court since spring of 2023.

The win also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour victory, took control to force a final set.

Moutet saved four early-game opportunities in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
